We made our way to Venice yesterday. Which, from what i've read and/or heard from people who have gone before, it wasn't as hard to get to as I thought. Second rumor: that it smells really bad and that makes it a bad experience. For us, it didn't smell all that bad. I mean there was a few sewer wiffs here and there, but all in all it was a pleasant scented experience. Now that thats out of the way, Lets get down to business. This was the view just as we rode the bus into Venice. Every place I go had tons of surprises (the un-expecteds) and the "just like the movies" aspects.
Right as you get to the entrance of Venice you know you're in Venice. Its extremely distinct compared to all the other place we've been to in Europe thus far.
Not to mention there are no more Lederhosen and Snitchel around. We are no longer in Austria. Italians are meaner unfortunately. It could be the fact that they are more overwhelmed with annoying tourists that refuse to learn their language.
But ya know what, it TWAS LOVELY there. So many allies with bridges with Gondolerers transporting lovers by water. Now that is the most "like the movies" this place could get.
It was a more difficult place to get around. We read in Rick Steves (a guy that writes travel books) that there are 2000 plus allies, so it is near impossible to not get lost. Yeah, the allies seem cute and charming (and are), but when there are 2000 to go around in one general area. Shootmenow. If we didn't have a time limit, it wouldn't have been as big of a deal whilst getting lost.
Shout out to Italia aka Italy. Also to my girl Talia Contos. Because Italia is just too close to your name girl. miss you.
The seagulls were loving my photo frame. They jumped right into my shots knowing where to pose and everything.
Venice's Cathedrals definitely have a distinct style going for them. Kinda looks like a candy land castle, more edible looking then others.
First gelato of Italy.
Personal opinion: anywhere is better at sunset.
We had to take a vaporetto (a form of a ferry) through the Grand canal that goes through most of the main places of Venice. Its the best way to see it.
It helped you see things that you would otherwise not see from just walking through the streets.
Theres a reason people say the streets smell. Theres also a reason they should have more Water Closets (WC/bathrooms) around. Supposedly this isnt anything out of the ordinary. Ya know, a guy taking a wiz on an ancient building from the renaissance.
When the sun started setting Venice was a whole new place. All the buildings then took on a new color and looked richer.
My favorite part was the water. Light on water, theres basically nothing like it in this world.
ahh the water you guys.. the light on the water. Its a revelation.
We then took another Vaporetto to our hostel. Where we shared a room with like 8 other girls. My bunk was the bottom, I don't know the woman that stayed above me, but she was probably in her early 40s ish.
We didn't have too long to enjoy the city this morning because we had to catch our train, but we wanted to see some of the sights during morning daylight.
That tower looks suspiciously like old main.
This was right before we got lost finding the train station again. I really need to wake up in these photos. I look high in half of all of them.
Venice was incredibly beautiful, and there really is nothing like it. I hope it doesnt sink into the sea anytime soon. It was a great first city in Italy to get us prepped and ready for the rest of the Italy galavant. Life is great.
You are one lucky girl!! This place looks like it jumped right off the movie screen ;)
