We woke up to more sunshine.. praise the heavens. So we decided to do one of the outdoor activities on our itinerary. We made our way to the edge of the city to the Vienna Woods. These woods were hunting grounds for the royal family centuries ago, then was going to be torn down to provide more room for building, but the locals demanded it be preserved. So basically these pristine woods have been kept in tact just as they were centuries ago. (except trail paint) We got to go on a magnificent hike through these woods to a meadow where we ate lunch and basked in the sun and nature. Such serene time today, silence away from the city of Vienna, and into its untouched natural beauty.
The Thains. These two together are the comic relief. One talks about the others snoring, one says they're hungry, the other demands food. I can't explain it, they're so fun to have around. They are like mother and daughter best friends. yeah, that's exactly what they are.
We try not to scream tourists.... but it just happens.
overlooking all of Vienna
This old guy didn't look up from that paper for approximately 15 minutes.. i watched. he was precious.
love that the trees touch up top.
crispy..
This shows the trails that you can take. I was told that they virtually go around the entire Vienna.
This was at the end of our hike
.. and this was the meadow that we ended up at.
cheers. Amdudler is an apple soda beverage that is popular in Austria. not a brewsky.. despite the look of it.
The view from the place we ate.
ok.. so this guy is a garlic, potato, and cheese patty thingy, and the first maybe 4 bites were super delicious, then you get way overwhelmed with how garlicy it is. woof, talk about my breath kickin for the rest of the day. They use the garlic greens instead of the white clove part, which apparently makes it have monster amounts of garlic flavor. Luckily I didn't kiss any Euro boys today, because I'm pretty sure they would have turned me down in an instant. ha
Something interesting about Austria is how when you're at a restaurant you can stay as long as you want after your meal is done. Unlike in the states where you kind of get the idea that servers want you to leave within a decent amount of time, or maybe ask. Here... as long as you like. Its nice. They make a lot of their profit off their beverages, and there's never free re-fills.
Is it completely weird that I photo strangers? I bet you thought they were going to be tourists of the day.. false, I just thought they were a cute duo.
first of all there are so many more dogs here than America.. and many of them have those face masks. This dog was crashed out on the tram under his owners seat.
TOURIST OF THE DAY....
Awarded for the face making skills.
We had been looking forward to the Gelato stop all day. We've already found our favorite spot to go get it. We're sad.
Stevie devoured that thing.
...as did i.
This is the court yard of our hostel. SUPER charming right?
There is a grill back here and a social area, that is always full of people! Its such a friendly and social place. I'm starting to get everyday why its such a well spoken of hostel.
The top two floors. We live in the one below this.
Oh, also there's a huge chess set back there. I should open up a place like this somewhere.
Every night, i'm so spent from the day, I'm surprised I even make sense on here some nights. Its kind of nice to be tired from just filling your brain with foreign knowledge. Culture studies is basically what we're doing. Never come across such good people watching in my life, than in Europe.
I am seriously living for your posts these days!! Keep up the good work.... Love you so dang much.
